‘Lamitische Slagerij’ and ‘Erse Groente & Fruit’ (Afrikaanderwijk, Rotterdam).
Photograph of a shop sign above reading ‘lamitische slagerij (...) erse groente & fruit’. The sign belonged to the ‘Mete Supermarkt’ on the corner of the Cronjestraat and the Bloemfonteinstraat. The building in which this supermarket was housed is being pulled down as we speak. The sign originally must have read: ‘Islamitische Slagerij. Verse Groente & Fruit’ (English: ‘Islamic Butcher’s Shop (...) Fresh Vegetables and Fruit’).
